Kindergarten Registration & Testing

Interested in signing your child up for kindergarten at NGS? Contact Kathy Ragan, our school nurse, by email or telephone at (423) 623-2811 extension 208 for more information on the registration process.

Registered kindergarten students will participate in an important screening process on Monday, May 24 by appointment. Staff members have begun contacting parents to schedule a 30-minute slot on that day. The screening will take place in the primary building playroom located at the front of the building near the walking track. Parents/guardians should plan to arrive a few minutes prior to their scheduled appointment and park in the parking lot close to College Street. Parents/guardians and students may wait at the area outside the playroom entrance, where they will be greeted by a staff member who will escort the children to the testing area at their scheduled time.

Due to COVID-19, several precautions will be in place during the testing process:

  • Masks are required for all adults and students at Newport Grammar School.
  • Students may only enter the building when escorted by an NGS staff member.
  • Parents and other adults are asked to remain in the waiting area while the child is being tested.
  • Testing areas will be sanitized between each test session.

Keep in mind that students have not yet been assigned to a specific teacher. Class supply lists can be found on any kindergarten teacher's page. Class assignments will be posted on the kindergarten teachers' class webpages later in the summer.
