Each year, the Education Consumers Foundation awards 18 schools the Value Added Achievement Award. Unlike most education awards, this one is based solely on objectively measured achievement gain. The basis of the award is each school’s score with the Tennessee Value Added Assessment System (TVAAS), the most advanced value added model in the nation. TVAAS allows parents and policymakers to see which schools are increasing students’ knowledge and achievement over the course of a given school year.

Newport Grammar School has been awarded the 1st place Value Added Achievement Award for K-8 / middle schools in East Tennessee, making it one of the most effective of Tennessee’s nearly 1,400 elementary and middle schools. Congratulations to Principal Burchette and all the staff at the Newport Grammar School. We hope that they continue to be successful in educating the children of Tennessee.

The Education Consumers Foundation is a consumer organization for parents, taxpayers, and their elected representatives. The foundation independently gathers and disseminates educational information of use to consumers via its website: www.education-consumers.org.
